The Fatima Experience: a “Glimpse” of What the Experience of Fatima Is

The exhibition inaugurated today wants visitors to be witnesses and perpetuators of the history of light, the central value of Fatima.

The exhibition “The Fatima Experience”, which was inaugurated today in the Sala do Risco of the Pátio da Galé in Lisbon, is not only a “glimpse” of what the experience of Fatima is, but also an invitation to the young pilgrims of WYD who visit it to be witnesses and perpetuators of the history of light, the central value of Fatima.

“The light of God since creation, the light of the Paschal mystery, the light that the Virgin Mary communicated to the Little Shepherds, which continues to touch humanity,” explained Sister Sandra Bartolomeu, from the Department for the Welcome of the Pilgrims and Pastoral Care of the Shrine of Fatima, at the inauguration of this “immersive and interactive” exhibition.

This “glimpse” takes place in six moments that flood the space with light, interacting with some objects, including the image of the Pilgrim Virgin.

It begins with the light of a replica of the Paschal Candle that is lit every night in the Chapel of the Apparitions, and it ends with the offer of a candle to each visitor so that they can light it in the evening rosary during the Candlelight Procession in Fatima.

It is an invitation to the visitor to be a witness and perpetuator of this experience of Fatima and to feel urged to live the "prayerful and silent" experience of the Shrine, underlined Sister Sandra Bartolomeu.

The exhibition, which was organised in response to an invitation from the Local Organising Committee of the World Youth Day Lisbon 2023 for the Shrine of Fatima to be represented at the Youth Festival, will be open until the 6th of August.
