Rules for staying and moving around in the Shrine of Fatima

The Shrine of Fátima welcomes media outlets that wish to work from Cova da Iria. The Communications Office provides professionals with the necessary information and ensures that they enjoy the best conditions to carry out their work.

To this end, media professionals must have the appropriate accreditation, which may be temporary, permanent or specific to anniversary pilgrimages and special occasions, and must respect the timing and dynamics of the celebrations, avoiding any disturbance.

When approaching pilgrims, their privacy must be respected and they should be approached as far away as possible from the areas of celebration and prayer.

The use of flash and spotlights must not interfere with the celebrations in progress or cause any disturbance.

The use of drones or other invasive equipment, such as cranes and large sticks, is not permitted.

When approached by a security guard, media professionals must comply with the instructions given to them. The Shrine of Fátima is a private space open to the public, and an atmosphere of silence and contemplation is essential.

Accreditation for media professionals does not guarantee automatic access to all areas of the Shrine. The following areas are off limits:

  • the pavement area surrounding the self-service candle stand
  • information points
  • candle stands and candle sticks
  • the area inside the walls of the Chapel of the Apparitions
  • the Basilicas of Our Lady of the Rosary and of the Holy Trinity (during celebrations)
  • presbyteries of the various places of celebration in the Shrine, including the Prayer Area
  • tower of the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary of Fatima
  • museum spaces of the Shrine of Fatima: museum, temporary exhibition, House of St. Francisco and St. Jacinta Marto (Aljustrel) and House of Sister Lúcia (Aljustrel)
