Youth Village Takes Shape

The space is being set up to welcome young people in the context of WYD Lisbon and will be available from 22 July.

The Youth Village space, which aims to provide suitable conditions for welcoming young pilgrims to the Shrine of Fatima from 24 July to 10 August, is under construction. The first tents have been erected in Park 12, next to the Pastoral Centre of Paul VI. They are part of a larger structure that will be available to young people visiting Cova da Iria during World Youth Day in Lisbon.

The tents that are already being set up have a total area of 750 square metres and will serve as a dining area, with an estimated average capacity of around 2,000 people. There, automatic drink and food dispensers will be available, with the possibility of service for light meals. This space, which will be available from 22 July, will have Wi-Fi internet and will be available to all pilgrims.

The dining tents are just one of the structures that the Shrine is preparing for the young people to “live Fatima during WYD”. The website https://jmj2023.fatima.pt/en gathers all the information needed for those who want to go on pilgrimage to Cova da Iria in the coming weeks, with useful tips for planning their trip, as well as information to get to know the places better and participate in the celebrations that will take place next month.

In addition to the dining tents, another tent will be set up as a cantonment, with a surface area of 450 square metres and the capacity to host around half a thousand young people on a permanent basis. A hundred metres away, near Avenida João XXIII, there will be a 25,000 square metre green area for the young people, which will be able to accommodate around 1,500 pilgrims.

The Youth Village is equipped with free toilets and showers.

Although registration is not compulsory, pilgrims are asked to express their interest in using this space through an online form.
