The Shrine of Fatima welcomed around 6.5 million pilgrims in 2025

The number of groups registered with the Shrine’s services has risen once again, particularly those from Asia. The statistics on pilgrim numbers were released during the 47th Hoteliers’ Meeting.

During this year, as the Church turned its attention to Rome for the Jubilee, the Shrine of Fatima recorded an increase in the overall number of pilgrims. Around 6.5 million people took part in at least one celebration, a figure up on the previous year, when 6.2 million pilgrims were recorded.

The 2025 figure also exceeds the 6.3 million recorded in 2019, a year considered a benchmark as it predated the pandemic and during which the impact of the Centenary of the Apparitions, celebrated in 2017, had already faded.

These figures were released during the 47th Hoteliers’ Meeting, held on 5 February in the ‘Refuge and Path’ temporary exhibition space.

Alongside the overall number of pilgrims, statistics relating to groups registered with the Shrine's services also showed an increase, boosted by the fact that 2025 was the Holy Year, during which many faithful travelled to Fatima on a jubilee pilgrimage.

In 2025, 5,608 groups of pilgrims registered, a figure 7.2% higher than in 2024. Of this total, 1,276 were Portuguese groups – 5.2% more than the previous year – and 4,332 were foreign groups – 7.8% more than in 2024.

Regarding foreign groups, their origins are very diverse, spanning 84 countries. Among these, the most represented continents are, once again, Europe, Asia and the Americas. The new development in 2025 lies in the weight of these latter two continents in the overall tally. Whilst in previous years the Americas were the second-largest source of pilgrims, in 2025 Asia took second place. Countries in the Americas accounted for 20% of the total number of pilgrims, whilst Asian countries accounted for 22.3%.

Furthermore, Indonesia and Vietnam have entered the top 10 countries with the highest number of pilgrims, overtaking other Asian nations that are regulars in this ranking, such as the Philippines.

In this analysis by continent, in Europe, Spain, Poland and Italy stand out, whilst in Asia, Indonesia, Vietnam and the Philippines top the list; and finally, in the Americas, the United States, Brazil and Mexico stand out.

Among the Portuguese pilgrim groups, the most represented dioceses were: Porto, with 45,665 pilgrims (more than double the figure for 2024), Braga, with 27,503 pilgrims, and Lisbon, with 22,046 pilgrims.

Reflecting the increase in the number of pilgrims, in 2025, the information points on the Prayer Area and in Aljustrel recorded 2% more visits than in 2024. In total, 424,206 people were welcomed: 57,592 Portuguese and 366,614 foreigners.

The cultural offerings at the Shrine are also attracting growing interest from pilgrims and visitors. In 2025, the milestone of one million admissions to the museum spaces was reached. The houses of Francisco and Jacinta Marto (429,930 visitors) and of Lúcia de Jesus (421,343) are the most visited, followed by the temporary exhibitions (182,011) and the permanent exhibition (94,522) at the Shrine Museum.
